HASP4 Key not detected running Sentinel Runtime 7.81

Hello,

I am having issues with an older HASP4 Parallel port key being used with a software called Biorad Microplate Manager 5.2.

Initially, the computer with the protected software started rebooting due to Windows Updates failures back in March.

I have just got around to reformatting the PC, and I'm experiencing the same issues after the reformat and reinstalling the software.

I narrowed down the issue to a driver called C:\windows\system32\drivers\haspnt.sys (version 4.30.1.1).

If I disable this driver (renaming it and removing the reference from the registry) the computer boots fine and the reboot issues go away.

That's great, but we still require the software which will not work as the application can no longer find the HASP key, as the driver "haspnt.sys" has been disabled.

After reading numerous forums, it seems that many others have experience this issue at around the same time on various versions of Windows.

I have also tried disabling the haspnt.sys, and hardlock.sys, rebooting and installing the latest Sentinel Runtime 7.81(which clams to have resolved a HASP4 issue in the readme), but I'm still having the same issues.

Currently with 7.81 installed, and haspnt.sys and hardlock.sys disabled, I am getting a "HASP Key for Microplate Manager not found (15)" error.

Please let me know if you need any additional info, and if you have any suggestions.

Thank You ,

-Mark

I don't see how you know which version I used. Maybe because I call it HASP SRM. We have been using the installers since parallel port Memohasps, and you guys keep changing names. I still have problems with the gemalto name :-) For it is still a HASP key :-)

But we normally used the GUI installer 7.54 , but latest version gave same problems.
I only see a 7.81 commandline version. I think we tried the 7.80 GUI installer, but without any luck.

We have been testing all day, also with different PCI USB cards, completely disabled the onboard USB chipset.
Using a "VIA Rev. 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller".
We then had slightly better luck with it.

We have a Blackbox server switch connected to the second set of USB ports. The blackbox usb is shown (when connected) as a USB Composite device. Which consists of a hub, mouse and keyboard.

So we have been seeing this problem with :
- Windows 7 Professional
- latest (7.80?) gemalto driver
- a single Sentinel SRM
- a USB composite device (hub/mouse/keyboard)
- McAfee Application Control

When the system is just started, the sentinel dongle can be seen by USBView, but not yet by the webinterface (localhost:1947). Enumerating other USB devices is not possible as can be seen in the screenshot.

When we wait a minute, the webinterface sees the dongle, USBView has enumerated all ports and has detected a problem.

When the our SRM dongle (vendorid:59147) is not connected, and the Cimplicity or Rockwell dongles, there is no problem.

Hi Edgar,

Yes I got the version by the name. HASP SRM was the name used in very old versions.
The keys are still called HASP Configuration keys but the term SRM is no longer used. In later versions it was changed to Sentinel HASP and not new series is Sentinel LDK.

Regarding the issue, it looks like a detailed investigation would be needed which is not be possible here.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for raising the concern.

We have not observed such issues with the RTE 7.81 so far.

Kindly confirm if this problem appears on more than one computer and also please share if the machine was otherwise working fine prior to the installation of RTE 7.81.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Parth,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

This is the only computer we have this software installed on.   We had this issue initially on the original OS installation and then reproduced on a freshly reformatted OS installation on the same PC hardware.

Yes, the computer was working fine prior to the 7.81 installation, however the installation of 7.81 did not "cause" the problem.

More accurately, I manually disabled the old driver "C:\windows\system32\drivers\haspnt.sys (version 4.30.1.1)" because it was causing the computer to crash.  After disabling the driver, the computer would stop crashing but then I would get HASP4 errors when starting the software that it couldn't find the HASP key.

Then, installing the latest 7.81 didn't seem to have any effect in helping the software find the parallel port HASP4 key.  Its almost like 7.81 doesn't have the driver or software the HASP needs.

Also, the computer is running Windows 7 x86.

I have attached screen shot photo's that shows it is installed and have a photo that shows the services are running. in one of the photo's it shows all the usb connections and cant seem to find the sentinel usb drive. I have downloaded all of the updated to see if it was the problem but it did not help. I have downloaded different versions of your program and installed them but nothing works. Hi Mark,

Thanks for the response.

It seems that the problem might be appearing due to service corruption over the given component.
Please be suggested to use the below provided command level run-time drivers and run the same using below instructions.

Installation steps :

1- extract the driver and browse the location in cmd (admin mode).
2- run the below commands one by one.

haspdinst -kp -purge

haspdinst -i

After this, please check the problem again.

If the problem still persists then a detailed investigation might be needed.
You may then report the same at our technical support portal at https://gemalto.service-now.com/csm/

How can I use a HASP HL remotely with a software on an AWS VM

Hi

We are using "Squirrel" software that came with a Sentinel HASP HL USB key. We installed the software on an AWS Windows Server 2012 R2 and we're using Remote Desktop to access the Software on AWS.

We are currently unable to use the software, it complains that it cannot detect the HASP key.

Is this supported? Or any ideas on what I could be missing for this to work?

Notes:
- I've downloaded and installed the drivers on both remote and local machines.
- I'm using Windows 7 as the local machine. (Also tried with Mac, same behaviour).
- In the Remote Desktop Connection, under Local Device and resources, I have all the drives selected to share (including Drives that I plug in later).
- I do not see the HASP as a USB in my devices so that I can physically select it to make sure it's shared across RDP

Hi Hani,

Using HL keys on any machine needs the device to be connected locally on the machine.
USB Passthrough is currently not supported in AWS for hardware devices. Hence this is not possible for now for HL Keys.

RUS licence transfer problems

Hello,

I´m using the RUS program to transfer my licence from my PC to my notebook. My problem is, that the transfer
works only once. From the PC to the notebook. If I want transfer it back, I got the errormessage that I transfer a rehosted licence and neither the notebook nor the PC won´t accept the licence anymore.
According to the discription of the RUS program, it should be possible transfering the licence again and again.
I hope you have a solution or a workaround for my problem.

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks for raising the concern.

The error appearing is not as per the product behavior since we can re-host a license back to its original machine. We need your cooperation to get below details for narrow downing the root cause.

1- The error screenshot with the message at the time of rehost.
2- Confirm the steps taken to rehost the license back.
3- Confirm at which point does the error appears.

Looking forward to your reply.

Sentinel SuperPro Parallel HASP to USB to Parallel for Windows 10

I'm in the process of replacing a Windows 7 PC with a Sentinel Parallel HASP token on a PC and installing this and the software onto a Windows 10 Laptop.
I've purchased a USB to DB25/Parallel adapter, however I keep getting an error; Error 12 Dongle not found with the software.

I've tried installing the following drivers;
Sentinel System Driver Install for SuperPro Version 7.6.0
Sentinel HASP LDK Windows GUI driver 7.8.1 Installer

However neither seem to fix the issue.

THe USB adapter comes up in Device Manager as USB Printer Cable, as it would, however it doesn't show the HASP dongle.

The dongle says Rainbow Technologies Sentinel SuperPro.  However googling this it comes up with this Sentinel support.

Is there a driver available for this to work in Windows 10.  This works fine in a Windows 7 environment on a PC.

How to automate envelope on CI build server

$

Hi,

We are using the Sentinel HASP key and SDK 7.81, I have eventually managed to get my dll protected using envelope and I would like to automate this as part of my CI (continuous integration) process.  I currently have automated build, test and package (into installer) - the idea being that I can eventually use the CI for building Customer releases.

I now want to package the protected DLL into the installer, but the problem is that the CI server is in the cloud but envelope requires a Sentinel key to be plugged in (even though I am using my specific vendor codes). Is there a way to solve or workaround this?

Thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

it is not clear what version of "HASP Envelope" you are using.
But in order to apply the "Envelope" protection, the "HASP Envelope" has to find one of the following:

HASP / LDK Master key
or
HASP / LDK Developer Key
or
Sentinel HL / HASP HL that was programmed with the same Feature used for the application Envelope protection.
or
SL license (software license) that was programmed with the same Feature used for the application Envelope protection.

So, you could generate a SL license and install it on your CI server.

1-    Open Envelope and add an unprotected DLL.
2-    Do not attach Master or Developer Key but apply a SL license on that machine with Feature ID say 123.
3-    Now give Feature ID =123 in application pane and click on protect.
4-    DLL protection is successful

Re : Sentinel SuperPro Parallel HASP to USB to Parallel for Windows 10

Hi Michael,

Here is our feedback:

1. Your software use a "Parallel Rainbow Technologies Sentinel SuperPro".
The drivers designed to detect this type of hardware key are the "Sentinel.sys" (x86) or "Sentinel64.sys (x64).
This driver is included in the "Sentinel System Driver 7.6.0" installer, but it is not fully tested on Windows 10, therefore it does not installed by default.

To force the installation of the "SuperPro Parallel Driver", you have to select "custom install" during installation of the "Sentinel System Driver 7.6.0" and add the "Parallel Driver" component.

(This could eventually resolve the Error 12 that means: SP_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED ).

2. On Windows 10 "Spring Update" (version 1803), old Software protected with old SuperPro Library could return  Error 12 or  Error 19 that means: SP_OS_NOT_SUPPORTED

in such case, you can try to set the application .EXE file to run  in "Windows 8" compatibility mode.
(right click -> Properties -> compatibility -> Run this program in compatibility mode for: -> Windows 8)

3. USB to Parallel adaptors/converters are not supported for "Parallel Rainbow Technologies Sentinel SuperPro" as they do not add a LPT port with a "physical address" (i.e. 378) in Windows. Therefore the Sentinel Drivers can not communicate with the Parallel dongle.

See "Enduser Guide" (http://www2.gemalto.com/support/files/SafeNet_Sentinel_EndUser_Guide.pdf) to check in Sentinel driver configuration utility, (SetupSysDriver.exe) if a Parallel port is detected.

In order to add a Parallel port on laptops, the solution is to use a laptop equiped with an ExpressCard slot and purchase a ExpressCard Parallel Adaptor. (but Laptops with ExpressCard slot are rare ).

Alternative is to use a Desktop PC and add a "PCI Express Parallel Adapter Card".

Olivier

Thanks Olivier

I'm using envelope 7.8. Can you clarify how to generate a SL license?

Thanks
