Re : Pc crashing, Error.log complains about driver

I only get an accesslog of the application running under the Administrator account.

Possibly the other .ini files are not in the correct folder.

Can I check in a log file where the application will search for this .ini file?

SmartKey (formerly Aladdin Knowledge, formerly Eutron) unreadable key

We are using driver 12.0.0. for USB key, and the sample software provided in the SDK (GenericWin32Dll\smartdem.c) to test several keys which have an issue. While some keys can be read from the beginning to the end of the test software, several other keys are not found and software reports

  1. ST_NONE_KEY : Key Not Found.

If we insist with that key, it may show up but it fails in the scrambling test:

  1. SmartKey found with protocol LOCAL
  2. Scrambling 3132333435363738 : ST_NONE_KEY : Key Not Found
This issue seems only to affect several keys, but not all of our keys, so it can't be said that is a system specific issue. Even trying the same keys on different hardware gives the same results: faulty keys are faulty on other system at the same way.

The strange thing is that the Smartke Programming Central (SPC) seems to find the faulty key ad it's able to reset it to defaults. Even when reset to defaults, the behavior is the same in the test application. SPC test feature does not report any issue with the faulty key.

Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance and regards,
Stefano

Hello Stefano,

Thanks for raising the concern.

However, the SmartKey product has been discontinued long ago. Hence, the keys are not covered under support warranty as for now.

Is there any way to retrieve the latest available driver and SDK, just to be sure that we are using the correct software versions? SPC reports version 12.1.0, while driver seems to be stuck at 12.0.0, as for skeylink.dll.

Thanks and regards
Stefano

Hello Stefano,

Thanks for the reply.

However, there is no way to provide the same as the product itself is out of production and support.

You may like to get in touch with gemalto sales representatives to check for the other product options available to meet your requirement.

Hello Parth,
we already migrated our product to Gemalto licensing solution, but unfortunately we still have to provide support for this oldest platform to our customers. I was just finding a way to detect if these keys need to be replaced and if so I need a way to justify it to the customer.

Thanks for your attention and regards,
Stefano

Hi Stefano,

Thanks for the response.

The version mentioned is the latest and was last updated on 2010. Since then, we have no further updated components or drivers. We didn't test the components since then on later platforms.

Hence, the error appearing could be due to faulty dongles or unsupported platform but we have no way to determine the same.

Unfortunately, there is no way to proceed with the query.

We appreciate your participation over the channel.

Parth

Hi!

When starting our application, we got the following message:

Does anybody knows what the problem could be?

I de-installed and installed the application and HASP again, but with no result.

Dear Customer,

Thanks for writing in !

Please share the following detail:

- Open the Admin Control Center (http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html) on the license server from where the application is accessing the license key. Same machine in case of standalone license.

- Click on 'Configuration' option available on the left, then click 'Users' tab and share its screenshot.

Additionally, share the version of Sentinel HASP/LDK RTE which is being used?

Regards,
Gaurav Bhanot

Hi Gaurav,

Thanks for the information.
The user section was the problem. We use it tests with detachable licenses and we restricted it too much.

Thanks again, the problem is solved.

Harreld

I have installed Sentinel runtime installation 7.6 after trying 7.54 several times on my Windows 7 system.  My computer continues to crash each time.  My device manager shows 3 USB controllers:
Sentinel HASP Key
Sentinel HL Key
Sentinel USB Key
Will it help if I get rid of one of them?
Thanks for your help.

Dear Laur,

Thanks for raising the concern.

The three USB controllers mentioned are device drivers for HASP HL key. These are loaded each time the key is connected to the machine. However, please help us by confirming the status of this problem as of now over below points.

1 - Are you able to access ACC (at http://localhost:1947/_int_/index.html ) post-installation of RTE 7.6 ?
2 - Is system crash still being observed after installation ? If yes, please confirm at when does it happen ?
3 - If any anti-virus is installed then please share its details.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards,
Parth Kaushik

Hello Laur,

Thanks for writing us back.

We found that there were some reported issues with the LDK RTE 7.6 over certain updates on windows 7. However, those were fixed in the later releases. Hence, please be suggested to try the latest RTE version 7.8 and observe the behavior upon the installation.

Steps to install:

1- Open the command prompt in admin mode and browse the driver file location in it.

2- Run the below commands sequentially

haspdinst -purge

haspdinst -i

Also, please confirm the update of windows installed to check.

Sentinel driver and McAfee Application Control corrupt USB stack. No more keyboard and mouse

We use Application Control (setup-win-8-10-2012-amd64-8.1.0.169.exe) to protect our customer PC's aboard of a ship.
We also have Sentinel drivers installed, because we have protected our own software with a hardware dongle.

We have:
- a Windows 7 Professional fresh install.
- Sentinel drivers (HASP SRM)
- Application Control

Problem:
When Application control is installed and enabled or in update mode AND a Sentinel HASP SRM dongle is connected to a USB port:
- our USB devices or not recognized anymore. (mouse keyboard)
- Device manager is missing USB HUB devices
- When pressing "Scan for hardware changes" the dialog hangs forever.

There seems to be lowlevel conflict between sentinel drivers, McAfee Application Control and USB.  How can we resolve this?

When our HASP SRM dongle is not connected while booting the Windows 7 OS, there is no problem and the mouse and keyboard keep working as expected. All other applications are working correctly.
- TeamViewer
- Cimplicity
- Rockwell RSLinx
- ...

The strange thing is.. Cimplicity and Rockwell also use a Sentinel dongle, which don't give the problem. Only our HASP SRM.

Hi Edgar,

It seems that the runtime you are using is very old (SRM).
Please try with the latest version 7.81 and share the results.

You can get the latest version from the following link-
Search for the following article number-  KB0016782
